US Election Returns Watch

US election fever hit Beijing as AmCham-China and the US Embassy hosted an Election Returns Watch event at the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel. The proceedings attracted a large crowd of AmCham-China members, invited guests, students and media who all came to view the election results broadcast live on CNN.

AmCham-China Chairman, James Zimmerman, addressed the crowd and introduced the US Ambassador to China, Clark T. Randt, who inaugurated the event. Attendees had the opportunity to cast a mock vote, network and interact with educational booths explaining the US electoral process.

As the polling results became clear, the Republican candidate John McCain conceded victory to his rival, the Democratic candidate Senator Barack Obama. Following the speech by Senator McCain, it was time for the new President-Elect to address the nation and for the event to draw to an end.
